Vision Statement
To be a continuous resource and safe haven for young girls that encourages them to gain confidence, build self-esteem, and become a voice of self-advocacy through mentoring, education, cultural competency, and social initiatives.
The G&V Legacy Program is a non-profit organization that offers mentoring to young girls between 6 and 18 years of age. The mentees are divided into two groups: ages 6-11 and 12-18. The program offers a fun, exciting, and educational experience that consists of learning a variety of cooking and baking skills, community service hours, resume building, mental health awareness, and much more. Each age group experiences the different topics of the curriculum at a level fit for their age appropriate benefit and understanding.
The G&V Legacy Program was founded by Elyria native, Markia Boone. Markia has a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree in Social Work. She is a Licensed Social Worker with experience working with adolescents and teenagers in a variety of settings. Markia is a former mental health therapist and school social worker that continues to study and gain knowledge pertaining to the needs of her community and its surrounding areas.
The G&V Legacy Program has been a dream of its founder since the age of 15. Markia has always had the gift of helping others and a passion to bring change to the lives of other people. The name of the organization stands to uphold the legacy of Markia’s late maternal and paternal grandmothers, Gerri Grantham and Vernice Boone. The namesake touches on the impact both of her grandmothers’ had on her life and the legacy she wishes to pass on to others.
